Inauguration

Inauguration is a film project exploring the presence and absence of Chinese political history in Texas. Using the ambiguous account of two young Chinese Cubans who traveled to Texas to participate in the inaugural congress of the revolutionary group Young China Association as a starting point, the work fictionalizes a young woman’s journey into a search for the story of the Young China Association in the setting of contemporary Houston, in conjunction with her auditioning for a Houstonian theater production. Through the interweaving of stories and forms, the work questions the modes of history-making and the connection of revolutionary politics across different geographies and time.
