A Landing on the Bayou
A Landing on the Bayou is a 70-minute multi-media performance/lecture focused on Houston’s diverse, rich and political drag scene in the years between the Stonewall Riots and the beginning of the AIDS epidemic (1969-1985). The performance will draw from interviews with a wide range of community members who survived those years including legendary drag queens and the friends and chosen family of amateur community members. The artists plan to present the talk at several Houston LGBT nightclubs and other venues. The project is a continuation of the artists’ efforts to reinforce society’s progressing views of gender and sexuality while counteracting the troubling social and legislative backlashes encroaching on the gains that so many have fought and died for.
